Tracktion releases Waveform 14.1

Tracktion Corporation announces Waveform 14.1, a substantial free update that puts custom plug-in creation directly into the music-making process. Describe an effect or instrument to Waveform’s Assistant and it writes the code, compiles the plug-in and loads it onto your track. The .1 update also introduces a completely rebuilt export system, a mastering-grade loudness meter (pictured above), the freedom to run the AI Assistant on your choice of model (including one on your own machine) and the ability for the Assistant to measure your mix. The update is FREE for existing Waveform Pro 14 users, with significant improvements also coming to Waveform Free.
Plug-in Generation opens a new creative possibility for musicians, producers and sound designers: building instruments and effects around the needs of the track in front of them. Describe the sound, behaviour and controls you want. The Assistant writes the code in Cmajor, compiles it inside Waveform, works through compilation errors and loads the finished build onto your track. Requested controls become real, automatable parameters, and the Assistant can also create a custom interface.
The process stays inside the session, making it possible to develop a tool while working on the music that inspired it. Every generated plugin is saved as plain files within the project, ready to refine, reuse or share. Producers can keep developing an idea through conversation, shaping both the sound and the way they interact with it.
Waveform’s Assistant can now render and analyse a full mix, individual tracks or a selected time range. Measurements include loudness, true peak, dynamics, spectral balance, masking and mono compatibility. Ask why a mix sounds muddy and the Assistant can identify the tracks and frequencies involved. The /mixcheck command checks a mix against the intended streaming platform’s target, while follow-up measurements help users assess whether their changes have worked.
A completely rebuilt Render window brings background render queues, pattern-based file naming with live previews, and LUFS normalisation with a true-peak ceiling. Waveform Pro adds Advanced rendering for stems organised by track, tag, submix or output. Side-chain-accurate processing preserves the relationships needed for stems to sum back to the mix.
Also new in Waveform Pro is a mastering grade Loudness Meter that combines momentary, short-term and integrated LUFS, loudness range and true peak with user-defined targets. Its real-time feedback extends to a comprehensive stereo-field display including a goniometer, phase correlation, balance, width and mono compatibility, plus channel timing-offset and polarity checks.
More choice, more instruments, faster workflows:
- AI Profiles expand the Assistant’s model options, including access through an existing ChatGPT subscription without an API key, or local models through LM Studio and Ollama.
- Attracktive, is now built in and free in every edition, with curated factory content available through the Download Manager
- Further improvements include an inline Plug-ins detail editor with drag-to-assign modifiers, a rewritten MP3 encoder, and clip-launcher and stability fixes.
Waveform 14.1 is a free update for existing Waveform Pro 14 users and Waveform Free.
