Squarp Instruments XP32 & Hermod+ 2.0 Update

Squarp XP32

Squarp Instruments introduces the xp32, the ultimate output expander designed to amplify the creative power of the Hermod+ sequencer. With 32 additional assignable CV or Gate outputs, the xp32 transforms Hermod+ into a 16-track CV/Gate powerhouse, an expansive MIDI/USB-to-CV interface, and a versatile preset manager.

Setting up the xp32 is incredibly simple. By connecting the included expander ribbon cable to the back of Hermod+, the xp32 integrates instantly, no configuration required. Hermod+ automatically recognizes the xp32, making all 32 additional outputs immediately available. Importantly, Hermod+'s original 8 CV/Gate tracks remain untouched. Instead, the xp32's 8 additional voices are internally mapped to Hermod+'s MIDI tracks, ensuring a natural workflow expansion without disrupting your existing sequencing setup.

At the core of the xp32 is high-end digital-to-analog conversion technology, utilizing dedicated 16-bit industrial-grade DACs for every output. This ensures exceptional accuracy and stability across all control voltage signals, from precise pitch tracking to intricate modulations. Each of the 32 Eurorack jacks can be configured as either a Gate (for notes, triggers, or clocks) or a CV (for pitch, velocity, aftertouch, and modulation sources). With a wide voltage range of -10V to +10V, the xp32 ensures compatibility with a diverse range of modular systems, giving users full creative freedom to customize their setup without limitations.

The XP32 offers versatile use cases to suit diverse creative needs. By default, XP32 outputs include note pitch, note gate, note velocity, and modulation, coming from Hermod+ patterns, but it can also be configured as a CV converter from a DAW, sending USB MIDI inputs directly to its outputs.

For example one track could be,

  • Outputs for CV pitch, gate, CV velocity, and CV for a CC (e.g., CC25)J
  • Drum Sequence: Use gate outputs for multiple triggers (e.g., GATE trig1, GATE trig2, GATE trig3, and GATE trig4)
  • Modulation Only: Assign outputs to CV mod1, CV mod2, CV mod3, and CV mod4
  • Generative Effects, LFO, Envelop...

All these configurations can be save/load as presets, making any setup quick and easy to access, enhancing workflow and performance adaptability.

Squarp Hermod plus

To support XP32, Squarp Instruments are also launching Hermod+OS 2.0, a major firmware upgrade packed with exciting new features. Even for users without the XP32, this update offers a wealth of new creative tools and improvements:

  • Internal Modulation: Each track now includes four independent MOD lanes that can be step-sequenced, recorded or generated and routed through the mod matrix. This makes FX automation very powerful
  • Advanced Data Editing & Randomization: Users can now display, edit, and randomize any type of track data including MOD, Aftertouch, Velocity, and more. Simply hold the STEP button while in STEP mode to access and customize the specific parameter you want to modify.
  • Refined Workflow & Enhanced Flexibility: The update also includes performance improvements, UI refinements, and additional features designed to enhance creative flow and make sequencing more intuitivej
  • Added CV IN Detection: (when Hermod+ is recording, the CV IN modulation will be recorded only if a change is detected, in order to save memory space).
