Ableton today released Live 11 Lite. Free for all Live Lite owners, Live 11 Lite adds new and updated devices, more sounds, a higher scene count and functionality that gives musicians a full music production palette.

Highlights from the free upgrade include:

MIDI Polyphonic Expression

  • Support for MPE-capable hardware – add bends, slides and pressure for each individual note in a chord, add subtle expression variations, morph between chords and create evolving sonic textures more easily.
  • MPE Control – a device that lets you edit the pitch, slide and pressure envelopes of each note to refine the expression in your music.

Audio Effects added to Live 11 Lite

  • Phaser-Flanger – a time-based effect with a lush sound, wide frequency and modulation ranges, and a Doubler mode for short modulatable delay.
  • Limiter – a studio standard for all music styles, Limiter sets an absolute output limit on any signal. Useful for mastering a track or on any signal that cannot exceed a certain volume.
  • Saturator – a waveshaping distortion for adding dirt, punch and warmth.

More new features

  • Up to 16 Scenes – Musicians can now add up to 16 Scenes in Session View for more varied arrangements and space to experiment with ideas.
  • Expression Control – a device that gives you detailed control of how MIDI parameters such as velocity, modwheel, pitch bend, aftertouch, and keytrack respond in Live.
  • Tempo Following – Live listens to and adjusts its tempo based on incoming audio from another musician or other gear like drum machines in real time.

Additional updates to previous version of Live Lite

  • Live’s Core Library – expanded with a focus on contemporary music production, including new sounds, drum kits, Racks, Grooves, loops and MIDI clips.
  • Rack improvements – Racks can be configured to have between 1 and 16 Macros, Macro states can be randomized with the push of a button.
Improved Follow Actions – Follow Actions can now be linked to the clip length, be set to jump to specific clips and be enabled and disabled globally. Scene Follow Actions make evolving arrangements possible.
  • Updated Devices – Device updates that came to Live 11 earlier this year are now available in Live 11 Lite, including Redux and Chorus-Ensemble.

Ableton Live 11 Lite is included in a wide range of hardware products for free. Owners of any previous version of Live Lite can upgrade for free.
